Trunk rack Does anyone know of a bike rack that would mount onto the back of a minivan?
I've found bike racks for roofs and trunks of cars but not for the back of a minivan. I have a 93 Dodge Caravan so I don't even know if it'd work but I don't want to try to reach for the roof all the time. If you could point out a store or website that has something like this, I'd appreciate it, but I'm on a budget and can't really afford a specialty bike shop.
Hi, Most car trunk bike racks are adjustable and will work on a minivan as well. I would stay away from the cheaper ones as they won't be as adjustable so you might not get a proper fit, but most of the good ones are very adjustable and should do the trick nicely.

Have you considered the Nissan Versa … it has more horsepower and torque than the Fit or Yaris and is roomier inside for a six-footer-plus … the Versa has larger wheels , tires , and brake discs and it comes with more standard safety equipment (side curtain air bags and tire pressure monitors for instance ) , more available equipment ( Bluetooth wireless for example , not even available on the other two ) , and is available with a 6-speed manual ( only 5-speed on the others ) or a CVT Automatic ( not available on the others ) … it's about a grand more than the Yaris ( more than made up for with standard equipment ) and $1300 less than the Fit which has much less equipment … frankly I'm surprised you didn't check the Versa if you even considered the Aveo again …

I just got a traditional trunk rack this summer. Although it works, it seems like a counterintuitive way to carry a bike. Sideways is not very aerodynamic. This way at least seems more aerodynamic.
Actually, this is a common misconception. Most bike racks for cars provide little or no serious theft protection. The cable locking system used by many bike racks can be easily defeated by cutting the cable. Trunk racks along with the bikes they hold, like the one shown in the picture, can be removed from the car by simply cutting the straps that hold the rack to the trunk. The bike rack we used before we bought the Ford Fusion Hybrid was attached to a frame hitch and had a metal bar locking system that was difficult to defeat. It could be done but it took time, effort and the right set of tools. It’s the only bike rack system I’ve seen that was relatively theft proof and even then, I would never leave our bikes on the car rack overnight. The bottom line is, if you want to keep your bike safe, don’t let it out of your sight. Any minimally competent bike thief could have your bike off most common bike racks (or have the rack off the car)in less than 10 seconds. For more cycling-related info see http://www.tunedintocycling.wordpress.com
A cheap rack could end up being an expensive one if it ends up damaging your bike or your car. I would opt for a hitch mount rack or a roof rack instead. A hitch rack does not touch any painted surface on your car, so would protect your car from damage. A good roof rack keeps your bike out of harm's way but could be expensive to buy. I have tried a few trunk mounted racks on various cars and was not impressed with any of them. I have both a roof rack and a hitch rack. The hitch rack gets the most use, but most of the time I put my bike inside the car
