i own a 1998 saxo spree. recently it has started to leak a bit of oil from the bottom of the car. i took it into the garage and they have told me that the head gasket has gone and it will need replacing, this is going to cost me just over £300 which is fine but something i cant afford untill begining of july. problem is that i have payed already to goto silverstone for the F1 in june and i was originally going to be driving down there. i ws wondering if anyone knows that, if i ensure my car has full tank of oil in my engine, it would be safe to drive it down there anyway without totally messing up my engine. im not sure of how many miles but i live in cambridge and is roughly a 90min drive. thank you
The gasket could leak at the same rate for a while but will get worse and could go badly wrong in the next mile. If the leak is enough to drain the oil out on the trip then you will first find out when it goes badly wrong and does lots more damage. No one on here could say it will be alright as no one knows the rate of oil loss per mile and how much worse it will get.
Summary - unknown quantity and could total the engine so do not drive it any further at all.
