How to Buy a Bicycle & Accessories : How to Mount a Rear Rack on a Bike
Can a Rear Rack fit on a full suspension mountain bike?
I have a mountain bike with a rear suspension system on it. The back fork is attached to a spring and a piston so that it can give a bit when I hit a bump. Will one of those rear pannier racks fit on it or would it lock itself onto both the wheel and the frame. If it locked to both the frame and the wheel I suspect the up and down movement of the rear wheel would break it.
Sure can IF you get a rack that mounts on the seat post. They have a quick release lever for easy mount and dismounts of the rack.
Welcome First time jumped here on your site, found on Yahoo. It really helps to have sombody to talk to other then my divorced parents. Thanks again Mr. Grey.
I’m seeing alot of animosity towards this gadget for some reason. Why. Even if useless, it’s pretty awesome. And I don’t find it useless at all. As an avid cyclist, I find this to be exactly what I need. Contrary to suggestions that I “just mount my cellphone to the handlebars, it’s not much bigger.” Well. Have you actually tried doing that? For one thing, the available mounts are FREAKIN’ HUGE. I’m not on a mountain bike here, I’m on a road bike. The bars are configured the way they are to provide a few different ways to grip in differing riding situations. As such, I pretty much need the handlebars to be free of unnecessary items. Between my speedometer and my lights, real estate on my bars is at a premium. This device looks like it could be mounted on the steering stem and not take up this space, or could be worn as a wristwatch as advertised and not be an issue at all. It would even come with me when I lock the bike up, and not give me yet another thing I have to take off when I stop. Secondly, those mounts suck hard. I’ve tried two meant for bikes, and modified two different in-car mounts meant for using the phone as a GPS in an auto. My Eris has hit the deck a few times, because all of them are useless. There just doesn’t seem to be a very good way to secure a phone to the handlebars. If only there were some sort of device that would allow me to put my phone safely in a backpack or zippered pocket in such a way that it would be safe in the event of a crash; yet still allow me to access my music and monitor calls and text messages while riding. Oh, wait. A third benefit to me would be that I built a bike stereo to use on laid back group rides. It lives on the rear rack, and requires a few feet of cable to be run from my handlebars. It sure would be nice if I could just leave my phone in the box that the stereo was built into; and control it from my freaking wristwatch. Haters gotta hate, I guess, but I think this thing is freakin’ cool. I can’t wait until it becomes available.
