Nylon tank
One of my african Dwarf frogs died. I have no clue why. NOw I am worried about the other one.?
We got 2 african dwarf frogs a week ago. Today we found one died. I have no clue why.
THey were in a 3 gallon tank with no filter or heater. Could this be why???
We have now moved the remaining frog into the larger 10 gallon one. IT has a waterfall filter and a heater set to 75 F. We took out some of the water so he wouldnt have to swim so far. And we put nylon panthose on the intake of the filter so he cant get stuck. We where feeding them freeze dried Blood worms. They float but they seemed to be eatting them as we couldnt find anything left in tank. We worry now because we took the one frog out so soon and put him in the new tank which was a different temp. We didnt have time to float him in the a bag. We dont know what happned to the other frog. He seemed fine the other day.
Will the other one be okay in this tank?
Frogs don't suffer the same affects as fish when moved into water that is a different temp so don't be worried about that. It's very possible that the water quality in the smaller tank went bad thanks to the food. Tanks that small have to have the water changed almost weekly. Depending on how cool your room is the heater probably doesn't matter but I would rather use one to be 100% safe. Your other frog should be fine but I would switch to frozen bloodworms.

Is my cycle finished?
I've been fishless cycling a 10g hex with fish food (encased in nylon). I've had the ammonia and nitrite to zero but (I did this as a test) when I add a fresh ammonia source the nitrites show up fairly quickly but take a few days to get to zero. Now, the amount of fish food I added was quite extreme - when I tested 24 hours later I already had 1.0 nitrites and the ammonia was reading .25.
When everything hits zero again is it done? Or do I need to wait until the nitrites are being converted to nitrates FASTER then they are now?
This tank will be stocked with some small tetra or rasbora, well within the tank limits.
yea as soon as the ammonia and nitrite hit 0 your good and your nitrate need to be <<30 and go slowly when adding fish cause fish give off ammonia through there urine and waste and adding to many at once will cause a spike and kill them
