Can I take a backpack and a luggage bag on board a plane?
This website http://www2.usairways.com/en-EU/travel_information/baggage_policies/default.html says that you may bring a carry-on bag under 18kg inside and a personal item including purses, laptop bags or briefcases. What I want to know is if I can bring a backpack instead of a purse...it weighs under 15kg
Yes, I always bring a backpack as my personal item, and have never had a problem. Just keep in mind that you will need to keep it at your feet, cutting into your foot space.
Vijay Kumar: Fantasy Terrorism or Corrupt OfficialsNobody, who values life, would ever suggest that a single moment of vigilance ought to be sacrificed in an airport. However, when the facts are laid bare and everything that was assumed about a suspect does not pan out it makes little or no sense to continue treating a falsely accused passenger as a guilty party. Now, it may well be that an argument may be made that the “suspicious person” ought to be treated “differently” because he or she had brought the problem upon himself or herself. This particular circumstance, which in other cases may have some relevance, does not apply in the case of Mr. Vijay Kumar. This was a man who was departing the United States of America without committing any crime whatsoever. To be sure, Mr. Kumar is neither a “sweaty Muslim terrorist” nor a “person who had attended a Muslim conference” as some newspapers have alleged. Perhaps, it is possible that the State prosecutors had tasted his body fluids and fed the journalists with the fact that he was “sweaty.” But who among us mortal do not sweat in temperatures that have been soaring in the 90-100 degree range. Still, it baffles the imagination that with all the interrogation techniques some of these foolish officials had misled the blogs and newspapers into believing that Mr. Kumar had attended an Islamic conference. Could it be that they had taken the liberty to besmirch Mr. Kumar’s impeccable character because they did not give a damn about the truth? Moreover, these very authorities’ allegation that Mr. Kumar’s luggage tested positive for explosives seemed more like a desperate bid to relive the events of 9.11. Yet, if anything that egregious mistake should have become a moment for pause. By far, it was an indubitable time for admitting that serious mistakes bordering on racism, and xenophobia were made and if nothing else Mr. Kumar should have been sent on his way.So, what is it that Mr. Kumar had actually done to face charges in the United States?1) In some newspapers and blogs he is plainly accused of attending an Islamic conference. Needless to say, there is a vast unbridgeable gap between a Muslim conference and a Hindu conference. While the former may be involved in plotting terrorism, it is generally impossible that the Hindus would be guilty of any such horrendous act. Since Mr. Vijay Kumar belongs to the Hindu fold, it must be that those persons (state and local officials included) who had cast aspersions on his impeccable character were unconcerned about the truth. Such an assertion is justifiable when one attempts to gather how it is that the journalists had come to know about Mr. Kumar’s meeting. Obviously, they were given such information by some unscrupulous interrogators. This begs the question: Why is it that the interrogators had failed to mention or clarify that Mr. Kumar who was a Hindu had attended a Hindu meeting. Could it be that they were ignorant of the difference between Hindus and Muslims? Or is it possible that they view Hindus as terrorists, also? As far as the meeting is concerned it would only have required one simple phone call to verify, what type of a meeting Mr. Kumar had attended. Fact #1 Mr. Kumar is not and has never been a Muslim Terrorist 2) The meeting in question was held by The Hindu Mahsabha of Houston. The purpose of this Vedic institution is to address the concerns of the Hindu Americans on a broad range of issues. Ironically, the conference that the Mahasabha had held focused on honoring the countless millions of Hindu men, women and children, who had died as a result of Muslim terrorism in India. The meeting was opened to the general public and non-Hindus were free to attend. Mr. Kumar was one of 180 attendeesFact #2 Contrary to blog and newspaper reports Mr. Kumar had not attended a Muslim conference.Fact #3 Contrary to blog and newspaper reports Mr. Vijay Kumar is a Hindu who represents the peace loving perspectives of Hindus and not the Muslim aspirations for terrorism.3) While it is true that Mr. Kumar did have a “knuckle duster” in his check-in luggage, it is entirely false to believe that he had broken any laws. Federal law does allow for such an instrument to be carried in one’s luggage. As for the explosives, it is alleged by the state prosecutor that the luggage did test positive for explosives. In fact, it appeared that the prosecutor was fixated with such a notion even though she was fully apprised of the fact that subsequent tests proved that no devices resembling explosives existed. One has to wonder what exactly went wrong with the first test, which presumably turned out to be positive. Could this have been fabricated to trump the charges?Fact #4 Mr. Kumar who secured his brass knuckles in his luggage could not have been a threat to anyone because that device was not in his hand luggage.Fact #5 Mr. Kumar had absolutely no explosive devices in his possessionFact #6 Mr. Kumar had done nothing that could be construed as illegal because Federal law permits the possession of brass knuckles in one’s luggage. 4) Yet, for all of the shoddiness on the part of the officials, they still maintained that Mr. Kumar be charged and deported. As a matter of fact even when the bail was paid some officials ensured that Mr. Kumar would not be set free because he was sent to another facility to await deportation. Why would the immigration have wanted to deport someone who was in the process of voluntarily leaving the country at the time he was arrested? Is this a case of racism, xenophobia and or the frustration borne out a helplessness to do something about the building of Mosque in New York? 5) Now it may be granted that the only possible charge that Mr. Vijay might be guilty is that he was sweating profusely. But here again there is a proper explanation.Mr. Kumar was taken to the airport by Thayalan Reddy, an author. Mr. Reddy is ready has attested to the following facts:a) There was confusion whether Mr. Kumar’s flight to Canada was domestic or international. b) Vijay Kumar incorrectly believed that his flight out of Houston would be on an international flight using Lufthansa airlines.c) Nobody was at the Lufthansa ticketing section to provide the appropriate informationd) This situation caused a great deal of anxiety because Mr. Kumar was reduced to an E-ticket number and absolutely no information about the place of departure or the airline that would take him to Canadae) After frantically driving around to the different airlines someone informed Mr. Kumar that his flight was in fact a domestic one and that he needed to hurry to Continental airlines. As one may have gathered from this situation it was not only Mr. Kumar but also Mr. Reddy that was sweating. It is likely that the sweat that the journalists mentioned in the article came fifty percent from the physical effort of rushing with the luggage and another fifty percent from sheer anxiety of possibly missing the plane to Canada. Yet, Mr. Kumar’s current predicament (deportation and state charges) for nothing more than an entirely innocent mistake must leave the Hindu community of America and abroad in an introspective mood. Why would the authorities pursue a hard nose course of action against Mr. Kumar when he has clearly identified himself as a person who covers some of the most sensitive religious documentaries? Do they not realize that Mr. Kumar may be placed in danger because they had divulged information to the newspapers that he was a Filmmaker who was involved in making highly secretive Islamic documentaries?According to Mr. Thayalan Reddy, it might well be that Mr. Kumar was deliberately prosecuted in order to obtain more sensitive information about his activities in America. It is no secret that Mr. Thayalan Reddy is the author of a soon to be released book entitled: Obama: America’s Nigger Cunt. He is in the process of sending the first copy to President Obama sometimes in the beginning of September. However, the more crucial matter for their meeting is that Mr. Reddy wanted to convince Mr. Kumar to make a movie on the life of Prophet Mohammed. In a never before attempted movie, Mr. Reddy wanted to play the Arabian prophet in a manner that Muslim law absolutely forbids. Hence, it hardly appears as a coincidence that some brass knuckles in a luggage bag would end up as a felony and deportation case when the very passenger was in the process of leaving the country with the brass knuckles safely in tow. Now, the name of the proposed movie is Islam: The Motives behind the Madness. Mr. Reddy is inclined to believe that the American authorities must somehow be helping Muslim terrorists if they persist with the case against Mr. Kumar. There is little else to suggest anything to the contrary. However, Mr. Reddy is emphatic about the fact that Mr. Kumar absolutely rejected his proposal for a movie. According to Reddy, the Filmmaker was deeply concerned that the movie could spark a global Jihad. This suggestion seems plausible when one understands that Reddy has already written the book Islam: Mohammed’s Sex for Terrorism Scheme. For the most part he exposes the Arabian Prophet as a out and out child rapist who wanted to provided imaginary virgins in his paradise to those who would kill for his creed. Mr. Reddy is also emphatic that Vijay Kumar should vigorously contest the charges against him because the work he is doing is of enormous importance to peace loving people through the world. He believes that a lawsuit should be brought against the State of Texas and other relevant parties for the harm egregious harm that they had caused him. Hey India Crew:
We are keeping up with your blogs and pray for all of you every day. Can't imagine the heat as it is nice and cool here in Grand Rapids right now. We did have some storms go through last night but today, it is supposed to be right around 80, but not humid. Glad to hear that you all arrived safely and will pray that the two luggage bags will arrive soon.
dear suzette: i’m back from France.
